The rules we play by are modelled after the ITTF official ruleset -
(Read Full Rules).
That being said we aren't professionals, we don't play on professional surfaces with 30 feet behind either end of the table. Even the balls we use most of the time aren't regulation.
We have no anti-doping or alcohol rules and encourage such behaviour while enjoying our facilities. Trash talk, excessive swearing and your mother jokes are all permitted and encouraged.
The most important rules that every player needs to be aware of;
- Game is to 11, first player to hit 11 wins, however they must win by 2 points minimum.
- A point is awarded every serve (Except let serves).
- If a serve hits the net and then CONTINUES to bounce on the other side of the table, let is called and the player gets a re-serve.
- Each player serves twice in a row unless the game is tied at 10-10, at which time they alternate every other serve.
- The ball is only allowed to make contact with the player (below the wrist) or the table / net. Anything else is out of play.
- Obstacles in the room are sometimes in the way. Use caution but there are no 'do overs', 'reserves' or 'rage quits' because of these. They are at both ends and it is fair for all.
- Serves must bounce on both sides of the table.
- Any damage to the table results in immediate forfeit of the match and will be reviewed by the fun committee.
- If the ball makes contact with anything other then a paddle, player (below wrist), table surface, or net it is the end of the rally.
- After each game the players must switch ends. This is to guarantee and equal and balanced experience.
- To determine who gets to serve first in the first game, players flip a coin.
- Losing player always serves first after first game.
- No farting if your initials are B.H. Gas detectors are installed and monitoring.
ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS WE EVOLVE THIS GREAT BASEMENT ACTIVITY!
